SAN DIEGO – San Diego will compete in its first NCAA Tournament Third Round match since 2013 and pursue its first quarterfinals appearance in program history when it takes on No. 8 [6] Wisconsin on Friday at 11:30 a.m. PT in Champaign, Illinois.

The Toreros (18-12) will make their fourth appearance in the third round in program history after knocking off No. 13 Cal Poly and No. 17 [11] USC in Los Angeles. It was the first win for USD against USC in the postseason after dropping the previous seven matchups.

The winner of the match between USD and the Badgers (24-6) will take on the winner of Friday's first third-round match between No. 15 [14] Marquette and No. 3 [3] Illinois on Saturday at 1 p.m.

The match will be streamed on ESPN3 with Tiffany Greene (play-by-play) and Missy Whittemore (analyst) on the call. Live statistics will be available during the match.

TOREROS IN THE NCAA TOURNAMENT
• USD is competing in its 22nd NCAA Tournament all-time and ninth consecutive. The Toreros hold a tournament record of 17-21 and have advanced to the second round in three of the past four years.

• In addition to nine straight NCAA appearances, the Toreros have also appeared in 17 in the past 18 and 21 in the past 23 tournaments.

• USD's best finish in the tournament is the Sweet 16, which it has accomplished three times (2004, 2006, 2013).
LAST TIME OUT
• San Diego defeated No. 13 Cal Poly in the NCAA Tournament first round, 3-1, then swept No. 17 [11] USC, 3-0, in the second round in the opening weekend of play in Los Angeles, California.

Lauren Fuller recorded a career-high 22 kills to pace USD's victory against the Mustangs in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament this past Friday.

• The Toreros hit .264 in the match to take down the Mustangs (25-3), 25-19, 25-18, 23-25 and 25-22, to advance to the NCAA second round for the third time in four years.

Roxie Wiblin finished the night with 15 kills and one ace while
Addie Picha chipped in nine kills and a team-high six blocks.
Anna Newsome recorded a double-double, leading the team in assists (22) and digs (12).Â

• USD took down No. 17 USC in straight sets, 3-0, on Saturday evening at the Galen Center in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The Toreros defeated the Trojans 27-25, 25-21, 25-19 to advance to the NCAA Regional Semifinals for the first time since 2013.

• USD is 0-4 all-time against the Badgers with the most recent matchup occurring on Sept. 2, 2016 – a 3-0 victory by Wisconsin in Madison.

• The Toreros and Badgers have met once before in the NCAA Tournament during a second round matchup at Wisconsin in 1998. The Badgers won the match, 3-0.

PICHA NAMED AVCA PACIFIC SOUTH ALL-REGION

Addie Picha was named to the AVCA Pacific South All-Region team for the second consecutive year.

• Picha, a senior middle blocker, adds to her collection of accolades after being named All-WCC first team last week. Picha was an AVCA All-America honorable mention as a junior and is in consideration for All-America honors again this year.
Â
• Picha had an outstanding 2018 season in which she was ranked among the top 15 in the country in attacking percentage, and the top 20 in blocks and blocks per set for a majority of the season. She led the WCC in total blocks, and was second in blocks per set and hitting percentage. Picha accounted for 68 percent of USD's total blocks on the season.
