USD vs PAC Box Mar 24 
STOCKTON -- Sophomore LHP Chris Murphy turned in another gem in pitching the Toreros past the Pacific Tigers 9-0 at Klein Family Field. Murphy scattered seven hits while totaling 11 strikeouts over 7.2 innings of work. This outing follows Murphy's 14 strikeout performance last week in USD's 8-2 win over Santa Clara.
In a game that got pushed back an hour due to weather and field conditions, USD jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the 6th inning when Daniel Gardner knocked a 2-run double that scored both Jeff Houghtby and Garrett Calvert who had each reached base with singles.
The Toreros (12-11, 3-2 WCC) took control of the game in the 7th with five runs. Key hits coming from Brhet Bewley, a 2-run single, and Kevin Collard, a pinch hit single to right that scored two runs. San Diego added two runs in the 9th to close out the scoring.
For the game three Toreros collected two hits on the day -- Paul Kunst (2-for-5, 1 run, 1 RBI), Garrett Calvert (2-for-3, 1 run) and Daniel Gardner (2-for-5, 1 run, 2 RBIs). Travis Kuhn pitched the final 1.1 innings to close out the victory. Kuhn allowed just one hit while striking out two.
The win was USD's sixth straight in their series with the Pacific Tigers. Pacific (7-15, 0-5 WCC) was led by Alex LeForestier who went 4-for-4 at the plate. Tiger starter Ricky Reynoso pitched 5.2 innings, giving up just two runs, but was dealt the loss to even his record at 1-1.
The final game of the series is slated for Sunday at 1:00 pm. LHP Nick Sprengel takes the mound for the Toreros.
