USD vs PAC Box Mar 25 
STOCKTON â€" The USD Toreros dropped a 9-7 contest to the Pacific Tigers today at Klein Family Field. The host Tigers scored six runs in the third inning to take control of the game. Paul Kunst went 4-for-5 for the Toreros with two doubles and two runs scored to lead the offensive attack. USD (12-12, 3-3 WCC) will play at Stanford on Tuesday followed by a three-game WCC series at San Francisco over March 29-31.
USD jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first when Brhet Bewley's sacrifice fly scored Paul Kunst who opened with a leadoff single. USD added two runs in the second. Daniel Gardner doubled, Garrett Calvert singled and with one out Adam Kerner walked to load the bases. All runners moved up a base on a balk with Gardner scoring. Calvert would also score on Tora Otsuka's sacrifice bunt that eventually turned into a double play.
USD starter Nick Sprengel was knocked out in the third when the Tigers scored six runs on six hits. Key hits came from James Free (2-run homer) and Matthew Tarantino (2-run double to right). Gabriel Ponce got the final out of the inning and would pitch three more innings, allowing just one hit and two runs while striking out seven.
USD would add a run in the 5th inning when Paul Kunst doubled and Shane McGuire's single would knock him in. USD rallied to tie the score at 6-all in the top of the 6th inning when Kevin Collard would hit a 2-run single to center that scored both Tyler Herburger and Daniel Gardner. Pacific answered with two runs in the bottom of the 6th for an 8-6 lead on Lucas Halstead's 2-run single to center. Pacific would extend their lead to 9-6 in the 7th before the Toreros added one more run in the 8th.
Ponce was on the losing end to see his record drop to 1-2. Nate Kuchta closed out the final two innings, giving up two hits and one run. Besides Kunst, Shane McGuire went 2-for-3 with one RBI, Daniel Gardner went 2-for-5 with two runs and Kevin Collard went 1-for-2 with two RBIs and one run scored.
For Pacific (8-15, 1-5 WCC), Cooper Casad (1-1) picked up the win as he scattered eight hits and allowed three runs over 4.1 innings of work. Justin Giovannoni earned his first save closing out the final 2.2 innings.
