PALO ALTO -- The No. 3 Stanford Cardinal limited the Toreros to three hits on their way to earning a 3-0 win to improve to 18-2 on the season. USD was paced by second baseman Paul Kunst who collected two hits in four at-bats to extend his streak of getting on base to sixteen games.

Early on Doug Nimura relieved starter Nate Walker with one out and the bases loaded in the second inning and was able to get two straight outs to end the Cardinal threat. In the third he gave up two singles and faced runners on second and third with two out, and once again was able to get out of the jam by striking out Maverick Handley.

The host Cardinal finally broke open the scoreless game in the 4th inning with two runs on three hits against Nigel Ward (1-1) with Jesse Kuet providing the key hit with a 2-run single. Freshman Tim Tawa belted a home run in the 6th off of Louie Crow to extend their lead to 3-0.

Stanford collected 10 hits against six Torero pitchers. Three Cardinal banged out two hits each -- Tawa (2-4, 1 HR), Nico Hoerner (2-5, 1 double) and Will Matthiessen (2-4). LHP Tristan Beck pitched five innings while giving up just two hits in improving his record to 3-0. RHP Jack Little closed out the 9th inning to earn his seventh save.

The Toreros (12-13, 3-3 WCC) begin a 3-game WCC set at USF on Thursday beginning at 3:00 pm.
