JA JOLLA, Calif. - The San Diego women's track team recorded 14 personal bests at their last local track meet on Saturday.
The Toreros raced at the Triton Invitational at the La Jolla campus on a warm and windy Saturday.
"Great day of work," commented head coach Will Guarino. "We were hungry and wanted more, but we did hard work and at times doubled up so we cannot be anything but pleased with the results."
Highlights included a critical victory for Jessica Ong in heat eight of the 800-meter. She finished with a time of 2:18.86. Sera Parvin placed second in her heat of the 800 and recorded a personal best with a time of 2:18.92.
Zani Moore earned herself a personal best and second place finish in the 1500-meter with a time of 4:42.64.
"I was hurting in the 1500 but I wanted to be aggressive down the stretch and was rewarded with second place and a personal best," said Moore.
In heat two of the 1500, Ally Roessling also posted a personal best with a time of 4:51.68. Later on, she was able to hit another personal best in the 3k where she finished with a time of 10:32.57.
"All I can ask for is to keep improving," commented Roessling. "Today I ran faster than I ever have in both the 1500 and the 3k. I had my team to help me and they pushed me to be my best. "
"Zani raced very well in her double," said coach Guarino. "She once again pushed the 1500-meter and also the 3km double and ran to two personal bests, and so did Ally Roesling, Maggie Scholle, and Molly Klein."
In the 3k, the Toreros lead the pack in heat one and recorded five personal bests, including from the winner, Maggie Scholle. Scholle posted a time of 10:35.21.
"Racing so well and having a breakthrough 1500-meter race in the morning gave me so much confidence to accomplish a great double today and to win my 3km race," said Scholle. "I could not have done it with the team that pushed me as well."
Moore, Molly Klein, Parvin, Ong, and Kate Hohler also posted personal bests in the event.
"In the 3k steeplechase, it was great to begin Natalie's 2018 debut" said coach Guarino.
Natalie North-Cole was the lone Toreros to take on the 3k steeplechase. She finished with a time of 11:41.84 and a nineth place finish.
The last race of the day was the 5k, taken on by Hannah Rasmussen, Cassidy Kuhn and Julie Giannini. Kuhn recorded a personal best with a time of 17:22.46.
