LA JOLLA, Calif. – The San Diego Women's Track program competed at UCSD this Friday and Saturday at the Triton Invite, rebounding with strong performances put forth on both days.
Aryam Jaimes shined bright for USD, notching two top-nine all-time marks in one day for the program.
The Toreros were led from the start on Friday, April 4 by sophomore Rebecca Bronstei, who in the first heat placed ninth in the 5K, finishing in 18:17. The second heat was led by redshirt-sophomore
Camryn Kozak who ran a personal best and also placed second. Junior
Nathalie Green closely followed in fourth place and also recorded a personal best with a time of 18:51.31.
"Camryn ran a well-executed race, she was focused and knew she was prepared to run her very best," said Head Coach
Will Guarino.
The 800m again belonged to pacey redshirt-senior
Aryam Jaimes as she ran a personal best of 2:14.84, and placed second in her heat. The finish also compiled a performance that placed her in the top five 800m marks of all time at USD.
"Ary got out in the opening 400m, and it was her strength that took her to the tape just slightly behind the leader," added Guarino.
Several Toreros placed well in the next three heats of the 800, showing the depth of a young USD middle distance squad.
The 1500m was also highlighted
Aryam Jaimes as she won, ran a personal best, and also ran the ninth-fastest 1500m on the all-time list.
"Ary set the tone for others to follow, and follow they did," said Guarino. "I was so pleased with the 1500m group as each of the athletes that participated ran personal bests."
Junior Lizzie Mcvey placed second in her heat and also set a personal best. Sophomore
Lilly Dow won the fifth heat and also netted a personal best in the event.
The Toreros closed out Saturday night, placing sixth in the 4x400m with a time of 4:10.09.
San Diego will take a week off from racing before they race at the highly-touted Bryan Clay Invite on the campus of Azusa Pacific.
