IRVINE, Calif. – The University of San Diego Track team rounded up competition at the Vince O'Boyle Invitational in Irvine, Calif. on Saturday, March 29.
"It was a tough day for us, as the wind played a key role in today's races," USD Head Coach
Will Guarino said. "It permitted our athletes to focus on tactics and strategy in a race that faced windy conditions."
The 800m women were highlighted by redshirt junior
Aryam Jaimes who came out victorious in the first heat. Jaimes ran a strategic race as she moved past her competitor in the last 200m of her race. In the 1500m, freshman
Kaitlyn McQuillen and junior
Stella Smith highlighted the Torero contingent as they both placed third in their respective heats. In the 400m, freshmen
Lily Rittenhouse placed seventh in her first collegiate race.
Two 4x400m squads closed out the day, getting seventh in the first heat, while in the second heat, the USD women placed third.
"I was proud of the women, they fought hard, and learned that the wind is an important competitor when it comes into play," Guarino said. "[Freshman]
Kara Curry, fell in her 800m race, and even though she fell, she bounced back up showing the resilience of the Torero Track Team on a challenging day."
The Toreros will be back in their hometown of America's Finest City to compete next weekend at the Triton Invite on UC San Diego's campus on Friday and Saturday, April 4 and 5.
