Late Goal Downs Toreros

Michel made a career-high 13 saves

BLACKSBURG, Va.Amber Michel made a career-high 13 saves on 19 shots, but San Diego was unable to keep pace with Georgia's offense and dropped a 1-0 decision Sunday at Thompson Field.
 
The Bulldogs (1-1-0) pressed forward throughout the match and generated 19 shots. USD (0-1-1) was able to keep Georgia off the board nearly the entire match, but Georgia scored a goal in the 89th minute to secure the win.
 
The Toreros' offense started hot, with Summer Mason taking three shots, one on goal, in the first six minutes of the match. She was the shot leader for both teams recording seven shots, but could never find the back of the net. Milan Moses contributed to the offensive effort with two shots, both on goal.
 
Despite the defeat, Michel and her defense had a strong showing. Michel made six saves in the first half, three of them coming in the first 10 minutes of the match. The Toreros also blocked several shots to keep the Bulldogs scoreless nearly the entire game.
 
In the second half, the Bulldogs picked up their offensive effort with 11 shots, but Michel was able to respond. The Toreros goalkeeper recorded 9 saves in the second half, two of them in the final 10 minutes of the match.
 
The Toreros will look to bounce back Friday at 4:30 p.m. (PT), when they travel to Texas to play Sam Houston State. On Sunday, they face No. 11 Texas A&M at 4 p.m.
