SAN DIEGO – No. 2 Duke scored twice in the first six minutes of the match and never looked back as San Diego dropped a, 4-1, decision against the Blue Devils on Friday night at Torero Stadium.
Â
Duke (3-0) scored on its first two shots of the game and added a third in the 23rd minute to take a commanding early lead. The Toreros (0-2-1) had trouble slowing down Blue Devils striker, Daniele Proch, who scored the first and third goals for the Blue Devils.
Â
Duke added a fourth goal in the 73rd minute when Kevin Feucht scored after a loose ball in the box fell to his foot which he sent to the back of the net.
Despite the 4-0 deficit, the Toreros had played well in spells and generated opportunities throughout the match. USD generated nine shots and held a, 4-3, advantage in corner kicks.
Â
The Toreros were rewarded less than 40 seconds after Duke's fourth goal when
Till Stockmann sent a pass across the top of the 18-yard box to an on-running
Aidan Marmion who powered a right-footed shot past Duke's goalkeeper, Will Pulisic. It was the first goal of the year for the Toreros.
Â
Connor Hountalas got the start in goal for the Toreros and had his hands full. He made four saves and was active off his line. Pulisic registered three stops.
Â
The Toreros will look to bounce back Monday at 7 p.m. (PT) when they play host to Cal Baptist.
