Offense Ignites in Comeback Victory

San Diego scores season-high four goals in second half to defeat Utah Valley

Aug. 31, 2018

SAN DIEGO – San Diego's offense came alive in the second half, scoring a season-high four goals, to secure a 4-1 win against Utah Valley at Torero Stadium, Friday afternoon.

USD (2-2-1) had trouble finding the net in the first half, but still held advantages in shots, shots on goal, and corners. The offense finally clicked in the second half for the Torero's to finish the match with a season-high 18 shots and 11 shots on goal.

Madison Louderback started the four-goal streak for the Toreros in the 51st minute,  after UVU (0-3-1) goalkeeper Brooklyn Nielson stopped her penalty kick, but gave up a rebound that Louderback finished to the right. It was Louderback's first goal as a Torero.

Milan Moses scored the second goal for USD to put the Torero's in the lead for the first time in the match. In the 70th minute, Moses shot to the top left corner of the goal, with an assist from Summer Mason who sent a cross in from the left side of the penalty box.

Michaela Foster extended USD's lead with a stunning goal from a corner kick. Foster was in the left corner, when she shot to the top-right corner of the goal. Nieslon jumped and got one hand on the ball, but it was not enough to stop the ball from going to the back of the net. It was Foster's first goal for the Toreros.

Mason finished off the scoring for USD in the final five minutes of the match. She out ran UVU's defenders, pulled the Nielson out of the box, and shot to the center of the goal from about eight yards out to put the Torero's up 4-1.

Mason and Moses led the offense with four shots apiece.

The Wolverines scored their only goal in the 25th minute. UVU's Sara Callister sprinted past the defenders with a shot just below the cross bar to get the Wolverines on the board.

Goalkeeper Amber Michel made two saves in the match. Her best stop came in the 37th minute when she made a stellar one-handed dive to keep the UVU from extending its lead.

The Toreros will play back at home next Friday at 7 p.m. (PT) against San Diego State.
