SAN DIEGO – San Diego's defense played well but the Toreros came up just short in a, 1-0, overtime loss to Cal State Fullerton on Thursday night at Torero Stadium.
Â
A late goal by Titans (2-1-3) midfielder Robert Coronado in the 100th minute clinched the victory for Fullerton. Coronado's free kick from 30 yards out, deflected off a Torero (2-3-2) defender and just out of reach of a diving
Matt Wiher.Â
Â
The most impressive defensive stop of the night came in the 52nd minute from
Aidan Marmion who saved a shot from Fullerton defender, Daniel Adoo, that had sailed just past Wiher.
Â
Â
San Diego's defense held strong in a physical match that saw five yellow cards between the two teams. Goalkeeper
Matt Wiher tallied four saves on the night and held off the persistent Titan attack for most of the contest.Â
Â
The Torero offense was held to just three shots in the first period, but found their rhythm in the second half and put pressure on the Titans. Senior
Allen Luhrs entered in the second half and lead the Toreros with five shots.
Â
Fullerton finished the night with a, 19-12, shot advantage, while USD held the slight advantage in corner kicks, 9-8.
Â
San Diego looks to bounce back Sunday at 5 p.m. when the Toreros host UNLV.
