 SAN DIEGO— San Diego will host the WCC's top team, BYU this weekend in the Jenny Craig Pavilion.
 
The Toreros (8-11, 1-7 WCC) continue a stretch of tough conference games when they face the Cougars (16-3, 8-0 WCC) on Saturday at 2 p.m. PT. BYU is currently ranked No. 1 in the West Coast Conference, after knocking off Gonzaga last week, 70-68.

LAST TIME OUT
• San Diego dropped a pair of tough contests at home last week, falling to Portland 69-60 before losing to No. 13 Gonzaga, 86-61.
 
•Madison Pollock set a new season high, finishing with 22 points but San Diego could not complete the comeback against Portland.
 
•After trailing 27-14 in the first quarter, the Toreros made a second-half run, outscoring the Pilots 29-22, but USD's comeback came up just short Thursday afternoon in the JCP.
 
•In addition to Pollock, two other Toreros reached double-digit scoring. Sydney Shepard went 4-of-11 from three-point range and finished the day with 14 points, adding three assists and three steals.
 
•Patricia Brossmann recorded her seventh double-double of the season, finishing with 10 points and a team-high 11 rebounds. Leticia Soares chipped in nine points and Sydney Hunter added eight rebounds.
 
•San Diego's best opportunity came with 1:32 remaining in the contest. Shepard knocked down a three-pointer to make it a two-possession game, 63-57. However, Portland held under the pressure, hitting 6-of-6 free-throws down the stretch to ice the game.
 
•The Pilots finished 6-of-26 from beyond the arc, compared to San Diego's 4-of-13. Portland held a large advantage in points off of turnovers 23-14 while the Toreros dominated the boards 44-28 including 16 offensive rebounds.
•San Diego saw strong performances from two of its freshmen, Aminata Dosso and Kiera Oakry, in the loss to Gonzaga on Saturday afternoon.
 
•The Toreros had three players reach double-digit scoring and held the Bulldogs to 37 percent from the field in the second quarter, but ultimately could not keep pace with Gonzaga's high-powered offense.
 
•Dosso had a breakout performance for the Toreros, finishing with a season-high 13 points on 6-of-11 shooting, adding three assists and a block. Oakry also recorded a season-high 11 points, including 2-of-4 from three-point range, and led the team with seven assists.
 
•Patricia Brossmann added 12 points, a block, a steal and tied with Leticia Soares for a team-high seven rebounds. Soares also chipped in eight points for USD.
 
•The Toreros finished 25-of-56 (45 percent) from the field while the Bulldogs finished 35-of-63 (56 percent) and 8-of-16 from three-point range. Gonzaga held the edge in rebounding 35-29 and collected 13 second chance points to San Diego's six. 
 
•USD collected most of its points in the paint (34) and shot 3-of-10 from beyond the arc. The Toreros saw good contributions from their bench with 24 combined points from the freshmen Oakry and Dosso.
 
ALL-TIME SERIES AGAINST BYU
• The Cougars lead the all-time series with the Toreros 12-6. USD currently holds a three-game winning streak after sweeping BYU last year, 70-69 and 66-60, in the regular season matchups.
 
• San Diego also defeated BYU, 61-56, in the opening round of the WCC Tournament in Las Vegas last season.
 
NOTEABLE ABSENCES 
• San Diego suffered multiple injuries at the midpoint this season and is currently without starting guard Myah Pace, as well as Ana Ramos and Karla Martínez.
 
LEADING THE WAY
• Patricia Brossmann has established herself as a top performer for the Toreros this season. She leads the team in points (12.1 avg), rebounds (7.8 avg), steals (1.5 avg) and has a team-high seven double-doubles this season which also ranks first in the WCC. Brossmann currently ranks fourth in the WCC in rebounding and sixth in field-goal percentage (51.3). 
 
• Madison Pollock is second on the team in rebounds, averaging 5.6 per to rank in the top-20 in the conference. Pollock also ranks second on the team in scoring, averaging 10.8 points per game.
 
• Sydney Shepard leads the Toreros from beyond the arc with a 32.1 three-point field-goal percentage, hitting 35-of-109. Shepard is second on the team in assists, averaging 3.6 per game to rank 11th in the conference.
