TULSA, Okla. – After becoming the first Torero to reach the Round of 16 in four years, No. 32
Gui Osorio saw his run at the 2019 Saint Francis Health System ITA All-American Championships come to an end on Friday after losing to No. 24 Giovanni Oradini of Mississippi State, 6-7 (4), 6-3, 6-3.
Osorio fought through a tight first set as neither side pulled away up to the tiebreaker. In the second and third sets, though, Oradini proved too much for Osorio, who was coming off a win over the second-ranked player in the nation, Christian Sigsgaard, on Thursday.
The run for Osorio in the ITA All-Americans was notable as he is only the second Torero to reach the tournament's Round of 16 and in the process, beat two opponents ranked No. 37 or better.
"Very proud of Gui and how he competed this week," said USD assistant coach
Sebastian Rey. "He implemented a lot of the areas we worked on since the Oracle Masters in Malibu and saw a lot of success as a result. Getting more matches at the top level is what he needs to continue to develop. He showed he can compete with the best players in the country."
Osorio moved to 7-5 in singles this fall and 4-2 against ranked opponents.
