WCC’s Top Teams Face Off

San Diego will travel to take on WCC co-leader BYU this weekend

 SAN DIEGO—San Diego will travel to No. 9 Brigham Young for a matchup between the top two teams in the WCC this weekend.
 
The Toreros (14-4, 7-0 WCC) will look to extend a 12-match winning streak when they face the Cougars (16-2, 7-0) on Friday at 6 p.m. PT at Smith Fieldhouse.
 
The match will be streamed via BYUtv and live statistics will be available on USDToreros.com.
 
LAST TIME OUT
• The Toreros swept both Santa Clara and San Francisco (3-0) in week seven to remain unbeaten in WCC play. USD has swept 11 of its opponents this season.
 
• Megan Jacobsen was a standout for the Toreros over the weekend, racking up 19 kills (3.17 per set) and committing only three errors on 31 swings to finish with a .516 hitting percentage. She currently sits top-30 nationally with a .408 season average. Jacobsen also collected a career-high eight blocks (1 solo) in USD's massive 17-block performance against San Francisco. The senior middle averaged 1.50 blocks per set to collect a team-best 24.0 points in two matches.
 
• The one-two punch of Thana Fayad and Katie Lukes on the outside continues to be effective for the Toreros. Fayad collected her sixth double-double of the season against Santa Clara, finishing with 10 kills and 10 digs. The senior hit .143, averaging 2.33 kills per set for USD and was second on the team with 16 digs (2.67 per set). Lukes averaged 2.83 kills per set and finished second on the team with 17 kills, hitting .190.
 
• Anna Newsome helped the Toreros to a .234 team hitting percentage, collecting 54 assists (9.00 per set) and adding nine digs and seven blocks (1.17 per set).
 
• Libero Annie Benbow continues to pace the Toreros in the back court, collecting 22 digs (3.67 per set). Payton Douglass chipped in 14 digs (2.33 per set) and registered a season-best three aces against the Dons on Saturday.
 
ALL-TIME SERIES AGAINST BYU
• The Cougars hold the slight advantage in the all-time series with USD, 10-8. BYU won both matchups last season, 3-1.
 
IN THE RANKINGS
• San Diego continues to receive votes in the AVCA Division I Coaches Poll, garnering 74 total points to sit just outside of the top-25.
 
• The Toreros sit at No. 40 in the NCAA RPI rankings, having faced three opponents in the top 10.
 
OFFENSIVE EFFICIENCY
• The Toreros are currently hitting .280 as a team on the season to rank 13th in the nation and first in the WCC. USD is collecting 13.89 kills per set to rank 20th nationally and first in the conference.
 
• USD also ranks first in the WCC for assists per set (12.89) and 21st nationally.
 
• Megan Jacobsen ranks first in the WCC and 26th nationally with a .408 hitting percentage.
