LOS ANGELES—Three Toreros reached double-digit kills as No. 22 San Diego defeated Loyola Marymount, 3-1, on Saturday afternoon in Gersten Pavilion.

After dropping the first set, the Toreros (16-5, 9-1 WCC) rallied to take three straight sets and defeat the Lions, 21-25, 25-22, 25-21, 25-15, hitting .500 in the fourth to close out the match.

Grace Frohling led the team with 12 kills, hitting .500 and adding two aces and three blocks for a team-best 16 points.
Megan Jacobsen and
Thana Fayad each added 11 kills, with Jacobsen also hitting at a .500 clip.

Anna Newsome collected a match-high 42 assists, directing San Diego's offense to a .309 hitting percentage. Newsome also added six kills for the Toreros.

San Diego was paced defensively at the net by
Lauren Turner who collected four blocks, while Fayad and Frohling both added three (1 solo). Fayad and Newsome led USD in the back court, finishing with nine digs apiece, while
Annie Benbow and
Roxie Wiblin added six and five digs respectively.

The Toreros applied pressure from the service line, collecting seven aces in the match including two each from Frohling, Fayad and Newsome.

The Lions came out hot to start the first set, hitting at a .438 clip. USD stayed close, trailing 14-15 midway through the set before a 7-2 run gave the Lions a comfortable lead and never looked back.

LMU held the early 9-6 lead in set two, before the Toreros went on an 11-2 run including two Newsome aces and one from Fayad to lead 17-11. The Lions rallied late to pull within two points, but two kills from Frohling and an LMU service error gave the Toreros the set and tied the match 1-1.

After trading points early, USD trailed 14-16 midway through the third set. Back-to-back kills from Frohling and Lukes swung the momentum in favor of USD and sparked a five-point run by the Toreros to lead 19-16. Jacobsen collected three of her 11 kills down the stretch to finish the set 25-21.

It was all San Diego in the fourth frame, with the Toreros hitting at a blazing .500 clip, and cruising to a 25-15 victory.

The Toreros return home next week to host Pacific on Thursday (7 p.m.) and Saint Mary's (12 p.m.).
