Toreros Host Broncos, Dons Next

San Diego will play host to Santa Clara and San Francisco this weekend

SAN DIEGO—San Diego will play host to Santa Clara and San Francisco this weekend as it continues conference play.
 
The Toreros (12-4, 5-0 WCC) will look to extend a 10-match winning streak when they host the Broncos on Thursday (7 p.m.) and face the Dons on Saturday (12 p.m.) in the Jenny Craig Pavilion.
 
All matches will be streamed via the WCC Network and live statistics will be available on USDToreros.com.
 
LAST TIME OUT
• The Toreros went 3-0 in week five to extend a 10-match winning streak, defeating Pepperdine (3-2), Saint Mary's (3-0) and Pacific (3-1) to remain unbeaten in WCC play.
 
• Thana Fayad continued her hot start to the season, averaging 3.33 kills and 2.92 digs per set, hitting .302. The senior outside hitter added three aces and nine blocks (two solo) to finish the week with 48.5 total points. Fayad recorded her fourth double-double of the season in a five-set victory over Pepperdine, collecting career-highs in kills (20), digs (19) and points (24.0).
 
• Megan Jacobsen put up strong offensive numbers for USD, hitting at a .424 clip and averaging 2.58 kills per set. She collected 13 kills and three blocks against Pepperdine and followed that up with a match-high 14 kills (.458), adding three blocks, at Pacific.
 
• Lauren Turner had a breakout performance against Pacific hitting .588 and finishing with career-highs in both kills (11) and blocks (7 total, 2 solo). She averaged 1.42 blocks per set on the week and finished with 17 total blocks.
 
• Annie Benbow continues to pace the Toreros in the back court, collecting 43 digs (3.58 per set), while Anna Newsome averaged 10.0 assists per set for USD.
 
ALL-TIME SERIES AGAINST SANTA CLARA
• The Toreros lead the all-time series over the Broncos 39-32. USD came out on top in both meetings last year, winning 3-0 and 3-1.
 
ALL-TIME SERIES AGAINST SAN FRANCISCO
• San Diego holds a 53-18 record in the all-time series with the Dons. The Toreros took both matches last season, 3-0 and 3-1.
 
IN THE RANKINGS
• San Diego continues to receive votes in the AVCA Division I Coaches Poll, garnering 49 total points.
 
OFFENSIVE EFFICIENCY
• The Toreros are currently hitting .285 as a team on the season to rank 7th in the nation and first in the WCC. USD is collecting 13.98 kills per set to rank 19th nationally and first in the conference.
 
• USD also ranks first in the WCC for assists per set (12.95) and 20th nationally.
 
• Megan Jacobsen ranks first in the WCC and 33rd nationally with a .396 hitting percentage.
 
PETRIE EARNS WIN NO. 400
• Prior to Thursday's match the Toreros will honor head coach Jennifer Petrie, who earned her 400th career victory in USD's 3-0 sweep of Saint Mary's on Oct. 3. Petrie, who took over the program in 1999, has led San Diego to the NCAA Tournament in 19 of her 21 seasons, with four Sweet 16 appearances, and been named WCC Coach of the Year five times.
