Pace Leads the Way in Win Versus Towson

Four Toreros hit double-digits in Monday night's 81-67 victory

SAN DIEGO -- Myah Pace led the way offensively as San Diego (1-0) defeated Towson (0-3) 81-67 in the season opener on Monday night at the Jenny Craig Pavilion.
 
The Toreros had four players score in double figures, led by Pace, who had 18 points, four assists and four steals. Jordyn Edwards added 14 points, five assists and four steals and Leticia Soares chipped in as well with 11 points.
 
San Diego took advantage of fantastic ball movement in Monday's game, piling up 15 assists on 25 made field goals. Edwards' five assists led the distribution list for the Toreros.
 
San Diego's defense fought hard, forcing over 20 turnovers on the night. The Toreros turned those takeaways into 27 points on the offensive end of the floor. Edwards led the way individually with four steals.
 
San Diego started off strong, putting together a 15-10 lead heading into the second quarter.
 
The first quarter lead stayed intact before going on a 10-0 run starting six minutes into the second, highlighted by a three from Pace, to increase its lead to 27-16. USD kept that lead for the remainder of the period, creating a 37-26 advantage heading into halftime. San Diego was strong from beyond the arch, knocking down three three-point shots to account for nine of its 22 points.
 
The Toreros continued to widen the gap adding to their advantage with a 58-42 lead heading into the fourth quarter. The defense forced seven Towson turnovers in the quarter, scoring seven points off of takeaways.
 
Edwards solidified a 7-0 run to grow the lead to 77-61 with 2:03 to go in the contest with a jumper from the elbow. The Tigers tried to narrow the margin, but the Toreros cruised the rest of the way for the 81-67 win.
 
San Diego was effective on the glass out rebounding Towson 41-31 in the contest.
 
The Toreros are back in action on Saturday, when they'll take on Air Force on the road at 1 p.m. (PT).
