Toreros Head North to Face Spartans

SAN DIEGO - The Toreros (3-0) will travel North to face San Jose State (3-2) on the road on Saturday, before returning for a five game homestand.
 
San Jose State is coming off two back-to-back wins against UC Santa Barbara and Sacramento State. The Spartans will face Buffalo on Thursday night at home, before facing San Diego on Saturday.  
 
LAST TIME OUT
• San Diego dominated the second half to win against Biola, 81-28.
 
• The Toreros dominated the glass, out rebounding the Eagles 48-26 on the night. Patricia Brossmann led the way collecting 10 rebounds in the contest. San Diego cleaned up the offensive glass, turning 20 rebounds into 16 second chance points.
 
• For the third consecutive contest, four players reached double digits for USD. Brossmann led the way to record her first double-double of the season with 13 total points, followed by senior Ana Ramos who contributed 12. Ayanna Khalfani and Aminata Dosso each chipped in 10 a piece.
 
• San Diego's defense held Biola to a 22.2 shooting percentage from the field and 22.2 percent from beyond the arc. The Toreros forced nine turnovers in the third quarter to score six more points off of takeaways to extend their lead.
 
Amanda Olinger made her collegiate debut in the second half, contributing four points off the bench.
 
• San Diego increased their margin of victory in the fourth quarter by outscoring the Eagles 32-2 in the period.
 
SEEING DOUBLE
• The Toreros have seen double-digit production across the board offensively with eight different players reaching the mark so far this season. Four players have contributed at least 10 points in each game this year.
 
Myah Pace, Leticia Soares, Jordyn Edwards, and Ana Ramos have reached double figures in two out of San Diego's three contests.
 
• Junior guard Pace leads the team so far this season averaging 12.3 points per game. Pace recorded a new career high against Towson in the Toreros home opener, scoring 18 on the night. The Oakland native has been potent from the field shooting over 50 percent in every offensive category.
 
• Soares and Edwards now average double figures from the field at 10.7 and 10 points per game respectively.
 
• Edwards also leads the Toreros from the line, shooting 10 for 10 in foul situations.
 
• On Tuesday night, San Diego saw its bench heavily contribute with four non-starters contributing double figures. Brossmann, Ramos, Aminata Dosso, and freshman Ayanna Khalfani helped elevate San Diego over Biola with their offensive efforts.
 
ALL-TIME SERIES AGAINST SAN JOSE STATE
• This game marks the tenth meeting between the Toreros and the Spartans as San Diego leads the all-time series at 7-2. The Toreros have not lost a game against San Jose State since the 1981-82 season.
 
PRODUCTION OFF THE GLASS
• The Toreros are out rebounding opponents 131-100, averaging 43.7 per game.
 
• The high-rebounding production has allowed San Diego to record 38 second chance points so far this season.
 
• Brossmann has dominated the glass in three games averaging 10.3 rebounds per game. Soares has also heavily contributed averaging 6.3 rebounds per game.
 
THE WHOLE PICTURE
• The Toreros have seen key offensive production from their bench during the 2019-20 season.
 
• In each contest, San Diego has gotten at least 20 points from its non-starters to elevate its offensive production. The bench is averaging 31 points per game with 93 total points so far this season.
 
FRESH FACES
• The Toreros feature a talented freshmen duo this season with the additions of Amanda Olinger (6-3 forward; Chatsworth, Calif.) and Ayanna Khalfani (5-11 guard; Woodland Hills, Calif.).
 
• USD also added sophomore transfer Erica Martinsen from Virginia to join its experienced group of returners.
 
• Khalfani has started to make immediate impact for San Diego off the bench, playing 44 minutes so far.
 
COACHING STAFF CHANGES
• Coach Fisher welcomed Jasmin Holliday as a new addition to the San Diego coaching staff, replacing Mery Andrade who left for an assistant coaching position with the Erie Bayhawks in the NBA G League.
 
• Prior to USD, Holliday served as an assistant coach at LMU for four seasons. She spent one season each as a graduate assistant, administrative assistant, director of operations and assistant coach.
