No. 20 San Diego will host Gonzaga and Portland this week as WCC play winds down

 SAN DIEGO—No. 20 San Diego will play host to Gonzaga and Portland this week as the conference schedule draws to a close next week.
 
The Toreros (21-5, 14-1 WCC) will take on the Bulldogs (10-17, 4-11WCC) on Thursday at 7 p.m. PT before hosting the Pilots (11-15, 3-12 WCC) on Saturday at 12 p.m. USD will also host LMU next Tuesday, Nov. 26 (6 p.m.) to close out the regular season.
 
The match will be streamed via the WCC Network and live statistics will be available on USDToreros.com.
 
SENIOR DAY SATURDAY
• San Diego will celebrate its four graduating seniors prior to Saturday's match. Seniors include Megan Jacobsen, Anna Newsome, Megan Priest and Payton Douglass.
 
LAST TIME OUT
• The Toreros took down No. 10 BYU last Friday in a five-set thriller in the Jenny Craig Pavilion. USD took the match, 18-25, 25-23, 24-26, 25-16, 15-9, to sweep the season series against the Cougars for the first time since 2011 and take sole possession of first place in the WCC.
 
• Megan Jacobsen and Katie Lukes led the match with 15 kills each. Jacobsen hit .480 in the match, while Lukes finished at a .367 clip. Grace Frohling also reached double-digit kills, adding 13 kills for USD.
 
• Anna Newsome directed the offense to a .215 hitting percentage, finishing with 56 assists—two shy of her career high. Newsome added three blocks (1 solo) and collected 10 digs to record her seventh double-double of the season.
 
• Annie Benbow tallied a new career high with 24 digs and Lauren Turner led the defense at the net with six blocks.
 
• Roxie Wiblin collected three aces and added eight kills, eight digs and one block for USD.
 
JACOBSEN EARNS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: WEEK 12
• Jacobsen was named the WCC Player of the Week (Nov. 18) for Week 12 after a strong performance in No. 24 San Diego's 3-2 win over No. 10 BYU. The senior middle hit .480 on the night, finishing with a match-high 15 kills—one shy of her career high.
 
• With the Toreros trailing 1-2 in the match, Jacobsen put up six kills and two blocks to propel USD to dominant 25-16 victory and force a deciding fifth set. Jacobsen provided a strong defensive presence at the net for the Toreros as well, adding four blocks (2 solo) to collect a match-high 18 kills.
 
ALL-TIME SERIES AGAINST GONZAGA
• The Toreros lead the all-time series with the Bulldogs, 54-9. USD swept the meeting earlier this season, 25-17, 25-18, 25-9.
 
• USD hit .433 in the match behind Jacobsen and Fayad with 12 kills, while Lukes added 10. USD collected five aces and six blocks in the match.
 
ALL-TIME SERIES AGAINST PORTLAND
• San Diego holds a 57-10 record in the all-time series with the Pilots. The Toreros took a 25-18, 25-18, 25-11 sweep earlier this season.
 
• The Toreros collected seven aces and eight blocks, holding Portland to a .020 hitting percentage. Fayad and Lukes reached double-digit kills while Newsome tallied four aces.
 
IN THE RANKINGS
• San Diego moved up in the AVCA Division I Coaches Poll this week to No. 20. It is San Diego's highest-ranking this season and the second consecutive week the Toreros have appeared in the top-25.
 
• The Toreros sit at No. 26 in the NCAA Division I RPI rankings, having faced two opponents in the top-10 and five opponents in the top-20 (7-Nebraska, 10-Washington, 12-Hawaii, 17-BYU, 19-Southern California).
 
OFFENSIVE EFFICIENCY
• The Toreros are currently hitting .278 as a team on the season to rank 13th in the nation and first in the WCC. USD is collecting 13.99 kills per set to rank 23rd nationally and first in the conference.
 
• USD also ranks first in the WCC for assists per set (12.95) and 26th nationally.
 
• Megan Jacobsen ranks first in the WCC and 17th nationally with a .403 hitting percentage.
 
BALANCED ATTACK
• When it comes to offense, San Diego likes to spread the ball around. Five different Toreros have led a match in kills this season for USD. Fayad leads the group with 11 matches and Jacobsen is right behind her with 10.
 
CONFERENCE TITLE IN SIGHT
• The Toreros can clinch a share of the WCC title with two wins this week. USD currently sits in first place in the WCC with a 14-1 record and three matches left in the regular season.
