SAN DIEGO - San Diego women's basketball is set to open the 2019-20 campaign on Monday inside the Jenny Craig Pavilion at 6 p.m. versus Towson.
Â
The Toreros will look to start off strong after finishing 9-21 in 2018-19. The Tigers (0-1) are coming off an NCAA Tournament first round appearance last season and will face SDSU on Saturday before traveling to the JCP.

Head coach
Cindy Fisher enters her 15th season at the helm for USD, boasting a .597 winning percentage (262-177) and multiple postseason appearances.

RECAPPING THE 2018-19 CAMPAIGN
• San Diego returns four starters for 2019-20 in
Madison Pollock,
Sydney Hunter,
Patricia Brossmann and
Myah Pace.
Â
• Pace returns for the 2019-20 season after suffering a lingering concussion. In 14 games, the sophomore guard averaged 8.9 points per game and a team leading 4.8 assists per game.

• Returning seniors Brossmann, Pollock and
Leticia Soares were USD's top three scorers last season, averaging 11.4, 11.2, and 10.3 points per game. Brossmann led the team with 7.6 rebounds per game.

• The Toreros out-rebounded opponents by 2.7 boards per game last season.

• The 2018-19 season ended in the first round of the WCC Tournament with a 63-59 loss to Santa Clara to bring San Diego's overall record to 9-21. This marked only the third losing season in head coach
Cindy Fisher's tenure at San Diego.

• The Toreros led for a majority of the contest before the Broncos went on a 15-1 run beginning at the end of the third period to take the lead. San Diego shot 33 percent from the floor and outscored the Broncos 17-4 in second chance points. The Toreros won the rebound battle 44-36 including 17 offensive boards.

• San Diego suffered multiple injuries during the 2018-19 season with six athletes lost to injury throughout the campaign.

SO FAR IN 2019-20
• The Toreros kicked off the 2019-20 season with an exhibition game against Cal State San Bernardino.

• San Diego's offense dominated the contest, collecting 28 assists on 34 made shots to beat the Coyotes 84-32.

• Three players recorded double digits with
Madison Pollock leading the way with 17.
Jordyn Edwards added 14 points, seven assists, three steals and two blocks, while
Sydney Hunter also contributed with 16 points and four assists.

• In her first game back since midway through the 2018-19 season,
Myah Pace was steady at point guard for San Diego with five points, six rebounds, five assists and five steals.

ALL-TIME SERIES AGAINST TOWSON
• This game marks the first meeting between Towson and San Diego in program history.

IN SEASON OPENERS
• The Toreros are 3-1 in their season openers over the past four seasons. San Diego has won all of its home openers from the 2015-16 season through 2018-19.

LEADING THE WAY
• San Diego returns four seniors and two juniors this season providing deep upperclassman experience. Redshirt junior
Jordyn Edwards will also provide experience for the Toreros after sitting out for her redshirt season in 20-18-19.

Patricia Brossmann returns as San Diego's leading scorer and rebounder averaging 11.4 points and 7.6 rebounds per game. The senior led the team in double-doubles in 20-18-19 recording nine on the season.

Madison Pollock also recorded two double-doubles last season averaging 11.2 points per game and 6 rebounds per game.

Ana Ramos and
Leticia Soares round out the senior class. Ramos recorded two new career highs in rebounds and assists while Soares recorded career highs in five categories (points, rebounds, assists, blocks and steals).

FRESH FACES
• The Toreros will feature a talented freshmen duo this season with the additions of
Amanda Olinger (6-3 forward; Chatsworth, Calif.) and
Ayanna Khalfani (5-11 guard; Woodland Hills, Calif.).

• USD also added sophomore transfer
Erica Martinsen from Virginia to join its experienced group of returners.

COACHING STAFF CHANGES
• Coach Fisher welcomed
Jasmin Holliday as a new addition to the San Diego coaching staff, replacing Mery Andrade who left for an assistant coaching position with the Erie Bayhawks in the NBA G League.
Â
• Prior to USD, Holliday served as an assistant coach at LMU for four seasons. She spent one season each as a graduate assistant, administrative assistant, director of operations and assistant coach.
Â
• Holliday played collegiate basketball at Oregon from 2008-12, finishing her career among the Ducks' top-10 in career games, steals and blocks.
