SANTA CLARA, Calif.—San Diego earned its 20th win of the season with a 3-0 victory over Santa Clara on Saturday afternoon at the Leavey Center.

The Toreros (20-5, 13-1 WCC) collected their 14th sweep of the season, defeating the Broncos, 25-17, 25-21, 27-25. With the win, USD registered its 15th 20-win season under Petrie and seventh in the last 10 seasons.

Thana Fayad led the Toreros with 12 kills, hitting at a .286 clip.
Katie Lukes added 11, including seven in the first set.
Megan Jacobsen was efficient once again for USD, hitting .350 with eight kills and one error on 20 swings.

Anna Newsome directed the offense to a .227 hitting percentage, collected 37 assists. USD collected five aces, led by Fayad with two and Newsome, Benbow and
Camryn Tastad with one each.

Annie Benbow turned in another strong showing in the back court, collecting 20 digs—her second-highest total this season. The Toreros collected 53 digs in the match, including eight from Fayad and seven from both
Anna Newsome and
Roxie Wiblin.

San Diego finished with five team blocks while Jacobsen led the defensive efforts at the net with three block assists. Newsome, Frohling and Turner added two blocks, with Turner collecting one solo stop.

The first set remained close before a five-point USD run, including three kills by Lukes put the Toreros in front 21-15. Lukes collected seven of her 11 kills in the first set and the Toreros won easily, 25-17.

USD used a 6-1 run midway through the second set to create distance at 17-13, however the Broncos rallied to tie things up at 20-all. The Toreros answered with four-straight points including kills from Lukes and Newsome, a block and an ace from Tastad to reach set point, 24-21. A kill from Turner gave the Toreros the 25-21 victory and a 2-0 match lead.

The third set was a back-and-forth battle that saw 14 ties and eight lead changes. USD held a 24-22 lead before the Broncos fought off two set points to pull even. After a key challenge by the Toreros was overturned, Lukes put down the final kill 27-25 to give USD the sweep.

The Toreros return home for five-match homestand to close out the regular season. First up, USD will face off with No. 11 BYU on Friday (Nov. 15) at 7 p.m., with first place in the WCC on the line.
