WCC Play Begins on the Road

SAN DIEGO - Coming off a win to close out nonconference play, the Toreros (6-5) will begin WCC action on the road with contests against Pepperdine (6-4) and LMU (4-9).
 
Both games are set to tip-off at 2 p.m. (PT). San Diego is 3-2 over the past five seasons in WCC openers.
 
LAST TIME OUT
• San Diego finished out nonconference play with a decisive win against CSUN, 59-40.
 
• The Toreros limited the Matadors only 40 points, the fewest allowed against a Division I opponent this season.
 
• San Diego out rebounded CSUN 34-17, led by Patricia Brossmann and Sydney Hunter's eight boards.
 
• Senior Madison Pollock recorded 16 points in the contest to lead San Diego's offense. Hunter tacked on 10 points and two assists, while Jordyn Edwards also contributed nine points, six assists and two steals.
 
• The Toreros built a two-point lead after the first quarter and never trailed from there on the way to a 19 point win. San Diego was potent in the paint scoring 32 points close to the basket.
 
• The defense played an integral role in the offensive production, forcing 20 turnovers on the night and scoring 23 points off of takeaways.
 
LEADING THE WAY
• Pollock and Myah Pace have been leading the way offensively for San Diego. The two guards are averaging over 11 points per game and have contributed double figures in multiple contests this season.
 
• Pollock is the only player to record two double-double performances after recording back-to-back double-doubles in November.
 
• Pace has been key for San Diego on both ends of the floor, racking up 38 steals on the year to lead the West Coast Conference in takeaways. The Oakland, Calif. native has also recorded 40 assists on the year and a team leading eight blocks.
 
• Pace has seen the most minutes averaging 33.3 per game, starting all 11 contests for the Toreros.
 
• Behind Pace and Pollock, Edwards has been an instrumental part of San Diego's offense. The redshirt junior is tied with Pace for the most assists on the team (40) and ranks second in steals (22).
 
• Edwards leads all players from the line with a .893 free throw percentage and has been huge from beyond the arc knocking down 12 threes on the year.
 
ALL-TIME SERIES AGAINST PEPPERDINE
• The Waves own the all-time series against San Diego at 44-34. The Toreros are currently on a two-game losing streak.
 
• The last win against the Waves came at home in the 2017-18 season as the Toreros won 79-53.
 
ALL-TIME SERIES AGAINST LMU
• The Toreros own the all-time series against LMU at 46-31. Despite owning the all-time series, San Diego is on a three-game losing streak against the Lions.
 
• San Diego's last win against LMU came on the road in Los Angeles in the 2017-18 season as the Toreros etched out a six-point victory, 60-54.
 
CONFERENCE OPENERS
• San Diego is 3-2 in WCC home openers over the last five seasons.
 
• When opening WCC play on the road, the Toreros are 2-1. San Diego will open up West Coast Conference play on the road for the third straight season.
 
IN THE MIX
• Beyond the three guards, center Leticia Soares and forward Brossmann have been key pieces to the puzzle. The two have rotated starting duties throughout the season and lead the team in various categories.
 
• Brossmann has been huge off the glass for the Toreros leading the team with 6.9 board per game. She currently ranks second in the conference in offensive rebounding and is in the top 10 in rebounding overall.
 
• In the paint, Soares has put up vital offensive numbers for USD. The center ranks first on the team in field goal percentage at .446.
 
DEFENSIVE MINDSET
• The Toreros have capitalized off of defensive momentum to create opportunities on the other side of the floor.
 
• San Diego ranks second in the WCC in steals and first in rebounding margin, out rebounding opponents 416-330 on the year.
