Edwards Paces Offense in Loss to Fullerton

Jordyn Edwards shot over 50 percent from the field

SAN DIEGO -- Jordyn Edwards led the Toreros on Saturday afternoon with 22 points as San Diego (4-4) fell to Cal State Fullerton (5-5) 72-67. Edwards' performance marks a new career-career high for the redshirt junior.
 
"Jordyn shot the ball really well and that's what you can take away from this game," said head coach Cindy Fisher. "She shot the ball with confidence, and I thought she led our team amazing tonight."
 
The Toreros had three players score in double figures paced by Edwards. Myah Pace tacked on 17 points, six rebounds, six assists and four steals, and Leticia Soares chipped in as well with 12 points and two steals.
 
San Diego utilized excellent ball movement in Saturday's game, piling up 17 assists on 26 made field goals. Pace's six assists were the most for the Toreros.
 
San Diego forced 21 Titan turnovers and converted the takeaways into 28 points on the offensive end of the floor. Pace led the way individually with four steals.
 
The Toreros started off strong, putting together a 20-15 lead heading into the second quarter. Most of the offensive damage came in the paint as USD scored 16 of its 20 points close to the basket.
 
San Diego was able to widen the gap in the second quarter to enter halftime with a 35-28 edge. Edwards found her rhythm from beyond the arc in the quarter nailing a jumper off an assist from Pace to give San Diego the advantage.
 
The Titans rebounded in the third quarter to build a 51-46 edge entering the fourth. San Diego remained hot from three, knocking down two three-pointers to score six of its 11 points in the quarter.
 
San Diego couldn't pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 72-67. San Diego took advantage of six Cal State-Fullerton turnovers in the fourth, scoring nine points off of those takeaways.
 
The Toreros are back in action on Wednesday, when they'll take on cross-town rival San Diego State on the road at 6:30 p.m. (PT).
