Toreros Sweep Opening Series

San Diego topped Wagner 15-9 and 3-1 in double-header Saturday

SAN DIEGO—San Diego won both games in its double-header on Saturday against Wagner to sweep the opening weekend series at Fowler Park.
 
The Toreros (3-0) offense continued its productive weekend recording 15 hits to win the first game 15-9. The Seahawks (0-3) kept it close in the second game, but San Diego prevailed with a 3-1 win to take the series.
 
In the first game, the Toreros did the majority of their damage in the second (6 runs) and sixth innings (5 runs). Ripken Reyes led the Toreros with four RBI and Cody Jefferis finished 2-for-5 with a double and three RBI. Paul Kunst scored a two-run home run, the Toreros' first of the season. Five Toreros recorded multi-hit games. 
 
Grady Miller got the start for the Toreros, pitching 5.0 innings with three strikeouts, two walks and allowing 7 hits, 2 runs.



In the second game, San Diego scored one run in the third and two in the fifth to hold a 3-0 lead heading into the ninth. Wagner threatened to take the lead after scoring one run and loading the bases, but San Diego held on for the win, 3-1.
 
Tora Otsuka had a big game for the Toreros, going 3-for-3 with a double, a home run and batting in all three of San Diego's runs. 
 
Josh Hendrickson got the start, going 6.0 innings allowing five hits and finishing with five strikeouts and no walks.
 
The Toreros head on the road for a pair of games, first at Long Beach State on Tuesday at 6 p.m. PT and then at Arizona State on Wednesday at 6 p.m. PT.
