SAN DIEGO – Isaiah Pineiro recorded his seventh double-double in the past eight games but it was not enough to help San Diego overcome a poor night of shooting as the Toreros fell 66-46 to Saint Mary's on Saturday night at the Jenny Craig Pavilion.
Pineiro led USD (17-12, 6-8 WCC) with 13 points and 14 rebounds for his 13th double-double of the season.
The defeat soured a night of celebration for the Toreros, which recognized its six seniors in their final home game –
Devin Moss,
Mitch Schafer,
Isaiah Wright,
Isaiah Pineiro,
Tyler Williams and
Olin Carter III – during a pregame ceremony.
USD struggled all night offensively, shooting just 29 percent (15-51) from the field and 5-of-18 (28 percent) from 3-point range. Carter III chipped in 12 points and Wright added 10.
The Toreros did not have an answer for the Gaels (19-10, 10-4 WCC) Jordan Ford who scored a game-high 21 points. The Gaels finished strong offensively, shooting 54 percent in the second half and finishing at 46 percent from the field on the night.
Saint Mary's dominated the boards with a 43-30 advantage in rebounds, including 11 on the offensive end. The Gaels outscored the Toreros 36-16 in points in the paint.
USD will look to bounce back next week when it concludes the regular season at San Francisco and BYU.
