SAN DIEGO—Caleb Ricketts went 2-for-3 with six RBIs in San Diego's 14-4 victory over Missouri State on Saturday night at Fowler Park.
The freshman infielder put the Toreros (5-2) on the board in the first inning, flying out to left field to score
Max Jung-Goldberg from third and followed it up with a 3-RBI triple and 2-RBI double later in the contest.
The Toreros scored runs in the first three innings, including a 2-RBI triple by
Ripken Reyes to take an 8-0 lead before the Bears (1-4) got on the board in the top of the fourth with a two-out RBI single up the middle.
MSU got three more runs in the top of the sixth, but the Toreros answered immediately when Ricketts hit a triple down the right field line with the bases loaded to make it 11-4, Toreros.
One inning later, Ricketts hit a double to right center field for two more RBIs and a 14-4 lead for USD. In addition to Ricketts, four other Toreros collected RBIs including
Tora Otsuka (2), Reyes (2)
Cody Jefferis (1) and
Connor Doyle (1).
Josh Hendrickson (2-0, 0.82 ERA) got the start for the Toreros, pitching 5.0 innings, giving up four hits and one run, with two walks and six strikeouts.
USD finished the day with 10 hits including two doubles and two triples, drawing 11 walks and only two strikeouts.
The Toreros conclude the Tony Gwynn Legacy on Sunday against Utah at 2 p.m. PT.
