FRESNO, Calif. – San Diego split a pair of games to conclude play at the Fresno State Invitational on Friday evening.

The Toreros (15-18) defeated Cal State Bakersfield 4-2 in the first game but dropped a 5-0 decision against Fresno State in the second game.

Delaney Heller turned in another stellar pitching performance, tossing her seventh complete game of the season. She held the Roadrunners to two runs on six hits and two walks with six strikeouts.

The Toreros took a 1-0 lead in the third inning but needed a three-run sixth inning to seal the victory.

Kelli Kufta led the Toreros offense with a 3-for-4 showing, while
Rion Simms went 2-for-4 and
Lindsay Clare went 2-for-3. Clare,
Sara Silveyra,
Sophia Bjerk and
Madison Casiano contributed an RBI apiece.

Madison Earnshaw pitched well in the second game against the Bulldogs and kept USD within striking distance throughout the contest. The Toreros were unable to capitalize and left seven runners stranded.

Earnshaw permitted five runs – three earned – on 10 hits and five walks with four strikeouts in 6.0 innings.

Taylor Spence led the offense with a 2-for-4 showing. Clare, Casiano and Kane registered a hit apiece.

Fresno State chipped away at the Toreros defense, scoring a single run in the second, fourth and sixth innings, and adding two in the third.
