SAN DIEGO—San Diego dropped game two of its weekend series with Loyola Marymount, 3-2, on Saturday evening at Page Stadium.
The Toreros (21-14, 6-8 WCC) jumped out in front, scoring two runs in the first on an RBI single from
Jeff Houghtby and a sacrifice flyout to right by
Chris McCready. USD then loaded the bases in the second inning with two outs but could not convert, leaving seven runners on base through the first four innings.
The Lions (22-12, 11-3 WCC) scored a run in the third and added another in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game at 2-2. The LMU pitching staff held the Toreros hitless through the final five innings to secure the win and clinch the series.
Grady Miller got the start for USD, going 4.2 innings and giving up two runs (one earned) on six hits and one walk with three strikeouts.
Travis Kuhn was credited with the loss, coming in for the last out of the fifth inning to finish out the game.
Kuhn gave up one run on two hits, walking four batters and striking out four more.
Tora Otsuka finished the day 3-for-5 with a double and a run, while Houghtby and McCready were credited with RBIs for USD.
Shane McGuire finished 1-for-2 with two walks and a run.
The Toreros will look to wrap up the series with a win on Sunday at 1 p.m. PT.
