MORAGA, Calif. – San Diego out-hit Saint Mary's but left 11 runners stranded as the Toreros fell to the Gaels, 3-1, on Friday afternoon at Cottrell Field.
The Toreros (19-28, 3-10 WCC) left runners stranded in six-of-seven innings and left the bases loaded in the fourth and sixth innings.
The Gaels (13-36, 6-7 WCC) capitalized on their opportunities, posting a pair of runs in the third inning and adding an insurance run in the sixth.
Taylor Spence inched closer to USD's all-time career hits record with a 2-for-2 performance with an RBI and two walks. She has 231 career hits and needs one hit to tie the record and two hits to break it, set by Shaunna Collo from 1997-2000.
Delaney Heller (10-11) was excellent in the circle, holding the Gaels to three runs on six hits and one walk with three strikeouts in a complete game performance.
