Toreros Fall to Arizona in Exhibition

A slow start leads to a 3-0 loss against Arizona

SAN DIEGO – San Diego's slow start led to a 3-0 loss against Arizona in an exhibition match on Friday night to open up the 2019 campaign.

Goalkeeper Amber Michel got the start and came up with an early save in the first minute of the match, but Arizona still struck early with a goal to the left corner by Kelcey Cavarra in the 10th minute. In the 22nd minute, Iyana Zimmerman scored the Wildcats' second goal.

The Toreros struggled to gain competitive possession throughout the first period with Milan Moses having the sole shot on goal of the half in the 41st minute.

In the 54th minute, Samantha Falasco was able to get one past Ellyn Casto, who earned the start at goalkeeper in the second half. San Diego was then able to gain more momentum with a shot missing just wide by Moses in the 62nd and a narrow miss by Kelley Carusa off the cross bar in the 63rd.

The Toreros played strong defense to finish out the match with only two fouls after the 70th minute but were unable to cut Arizona's lead.

San Diego will open the regular season next Friday at 7:00 p.m. against LIU Brooklyn at home.
