SAN DIEGO – Halle Walls led the charge on offense on Sunday afternoon with two goals against Holy Cross. San Diego continued to dominate on the offensive side of the ball shooting over 50 percent from the field in a 4-0 victory.
The first period started slow with back and forth possessions by the Toreros and the Crusaders.
Sami Fairweather took the first shot of the day, but Holy Cross' Sophia Lettieri was able to make the save.
Milan Moses,
Katie Lapomarda, and
Michaela Foster also had great looks but were unable to connect.
In the 42nd, Walls took a header off a corner kick by Foster, netting it high in the right corner to give the Toreros a one to nothing lead at the half.
USD's offense exploded in the second period with 10 shots, five on goal. Walls made her second goal of the day off of another corner kick from Foster in the 53rd. Moses netted her second goal of the season shortly afterward in the 55th minute off an assist from
Jamie Goralski.
Michayla Herr scored the fourth and final goal of the afternoon off a rebound from a shot by Goralski in the 75th.
San Diego showcased 21 different players in the match with the bench contributing four shots, two on goal and one goal on the afternoon.
The Toreros will head to Long Beach State for their first road match of the season on Sept. 2. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. (PT).
