SPOKANE, Wash.—San Diego got its fourth-straight sweep with a 3-0 victory over Gonzaga on Saturday afternoon at the Charlotte Y. Martin Centre.

The Toreros (9-4, 2-0 WCC) hit .433 as a team with three players reaching double-digit kills to take down the Bulldogs, 25-17, 25-18, 25-9.

Thana Fayad and
Megan Jacobsen paced the offense with 12 kills apiece, while
Katie Lukes added 10 kills.
Grace Frohling and
Lauren Turner added eight and seven kills respectively. Collectively the Toreros tallied 56 kills in the three-set match.

Anna Newsome directed the highly efficient USD offense with all five Toreros hitting at a .300 clip or better, including Jacobsen at .526 and Turner at .545. Newsome collected 33 assists and 11 digs for her fourth double-double of the season, adding five kills.

Fayad also notched a double-double—her second of the season—tying Newsome with a team-high 11 digs, while libero
Annie Benbow registered 10 in the back court.

Fayad led the Toreros at the service line with two aces while Frohling, Benbow and
Payton Douglass all registered one.Â

San Diego jumped out to a 6-0 lead in set one, forcing an early timeout for the Bulldogs. GU then went on a 7-2 run to pull within one point at 7-8. The Teams pulled even at 11-all and traded points midway through the set.Â

Back-to-back kills by Turner gave the Toreros some breathing room at 16-13 and the momentum carried USD through the frame. Lukes finished with three consecutive kills to close out the first set, 25-17.

The Toreros came out on fire in the second set, hitting .594 as a team and committing only two errors as a team. The teams were knotted early at 5-5 before a kill from Jacobsen, a GU hitting error and an ace by Fayad put the Toreros in front permanently. Six kills from Jacobsen and five from Frohling powered USD to the 25-18 set-two victory.Â

It was all San Diego in the final frame, holding Gonzaga to a .038 clip with 16 digs and 3.0 team blocks. Jacobsen added five more kills, while Fayad put down six to cruise to a 25-9 third-set victory.
With the victory the Toreros extend their match win streak to seven and sweep the first weekend of conference play.

The Toreros will return home for a Tuesday night matchup with Pepperdine at 7 p.m. PT in the Jenny Craig Pavilion before heading back on the road to take on Saint Mary's (Oct. 3) and Pacific (Oct. 5) over the weekend.
