USD Falls to SJSU in Dual Meet

SAN DIEGO – USD swim and dive suffered a 94-33 loss on Saturday at the hands of San José State. The Toreros came in first place in only two of the nine scored events.

The meet was USD's first home appearance of 2020 and their second consecutive day of competition after swimming in the San Diego State Pentathlon on Friday. "Winter training is starting off well but we have some work to do to get ready for championships in February," assistant coach Jaclyn Rosen said.

The meet was comprised of relays, long distance events such as the 1000-yard freestyle and multiple elimination rounds of 50-yards in all strokes. USD claimed victory in the 50-yard freestyle with freshman Rachel Hubka's 24.24 time, and in the 50-yard breaststroke with junior Kailyn Evans' 30.8 second swim. Both of these times are just below their career bests that were set back in November at the Pepperdine Invitational.

"Today was a fun day of racing. We have been back for three days now and this is our second day of competing against some really good competition," Rosen said.

The Toreros 'A' relay consisting of freshman Parker Henry, junior Maeve Murdoch, sophomore Alexa Phillips, and Hubka swam their way to second place in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:59.19.

"I'm excited for this season and ready for the next couple of weeks of training," Rosen continued.

USD will be back in action Jan.17-18 for the West Coast Conference Cup.
