San Diego women's basketball signs four to the Class of 2025

SAN DIEGO - San Diego women's basketball has signed four players to NLIs, head coach Cindy Fisher announced on Wednesday.

The Class of 2025 includes NBA India Academy prospect Harsimran "Honey" Kaur, California natives Kylie Horstmeyer and Kristin Williams, and Broomfield, Colo. product Courtney Wristen.

"This is a very strong and impressive recruiting class that we have signed at USD," said Fisher. "We have added size, speed, strength, range, skill and individuals with strong character to our program. All of these young ladies have excelled not only on the basketball court but also in the classroom. All four of these athletes bring a deep competitiveness and winning attitude to the game."

Honey Kaur NLI

Kaur is the second player from the NBA Academy to sign with the Toreros after redshirt sophomore Karla Martinez. The NBA Academy is an elite basketball development initiative that provides top high school-age prospects from outside the United States with a holistic approach to player development.

"On behalf of NBA Academy India, I would like to congratulate Honey on this amazing accomplishment," said Blair Hardiek, the Global Director for the NBA Academy's Women's Program. "USD is getting one of the greatest competitors I have ever had the privilege to coach. She has a well-rounded skill set and can play inside out. This paired with her refuse to lose attitude makes her a threat on both ends of the court."

Kaur recently became the first female NBA Academy prospect from outside of Australia to train at the NBA Global Academy in Canberra, Australia, which serves as the program's hub for top prospects around the world. In October 2019, Kaur was named MVP of the third NBA Academy Women's Program India Camp in Mumbai ahead of the NBA India Games.

A 6'4" forward, Kaur most recently attended Central Pointe Christian Academy in Kissimmee, Fl. She competed with Team India in the South Asian Championship in 2019 and was a member of the 3 v 3 team in the 2019 FIBA Asia Cup.

Off the court, Kaur enjoys cooking and studying math.

Fisher on Kaur… "Honey is a very skilled and talented player who will bring a unique presence to our inside game. Her size and ability to play in and out is going to create a lot of mismatches for our opponents. Honey's bubbly personality and love for the sport is contagious, and she is such a fun spirited person."

Kylie Horstmeyer NLI

One of two California natives in the Class of 2025, Horstmeyer joins San Diego as the third member of her family to play collegiate sports in the West Coast Conference. Her mother Caren and Aunt Christine both played basketball at Santa Clara.

Horstmeyer will provide the Toreros with another shooting threat, after scoring over a thousand points in three seasons at Redwood High School. She averaged 19.8 pointe per game, 11.7 rebounds per game and 3.5 steals per game in her junior season.

"Kylie is a gift to basketball with the desire to be the best player she can be," said club coach Sean Chambers. "Kylie plays with high energy, high basketball IQ and at a tremendous offensive skill level. To top it off, she is an amazing teammate.  Kylie is one of the top 5 players in NorCal and was a tremendous addition to the JBS 3SSB basketball program."

A dual-sport athlete in water polo and basketball, the 6'0" forward was recognized on the court as the 2020 Marin County Athletic League Player of the Year, a two-time All-State underclass second team selection, an All-State honorable mention selection and an All-Nor Cal honorable mention selection. Horstmeyer helped lead her team to two Marin County Athletic League Championships and two state tournament appearances.

The Greenbrae, Calif. native is a three-year CSF Redwood Honor Society member and the Senior Class Vice President. She has served her community by volunteering at the Marin City Manzanita Center and enjoys hiking, traveling and camping.

Fisher on Horstmeyer… "Kylie is one of those players that can play any position on the floor and be very successful. She can handle it, shoot it, defend any position, but her most amazing quality is her rebounding presence. Her work ethic is second to none. I have never seen her take a play off. She shows pure joy when she is on the court and her determination is relentless."

Kristin Williams NLI

Williams, a 5'8" guard, joins the Toreros after prepping at Christian High School in El Cajon. Williams comes from a family of collegiate athletes as four of her cousins played college soccer, football, softball and rugby.

A three-time captain of the varsity team, Williams brings championship experience helping lead Christian High School to the conference title in 2018. The San Diego native is also a four-time MVP, the Christian High School Offensive Player of the Year and a 2018 All-CIF second team honoree.

"Feisty, passionate, intense, hardworking and humble. Those are the words that come to mind when I think about Kristin," said Christian High School head coach Vickie Carrington. "She is a great leader, always encouraging her teammates and trying her best to make others better on and off the court. I'm excited to see Kristin play at the next level and believe she will be a major impact player for the Toreros!"

Williams is a dynamic shooter with range as she owns her high school's all-time three-point record with 113 during her scholastic career.

Williams has also excelled in the classroom as a three-time Honor Roll student. Outside of basketball, she enjoys surfing, swimming and collecting coins.

Fisher on Williams… "Kristin is such an amazing scorer and her range is incredible. I love the intensity and tenacity she plays with on both ends of the floor. She is so intense and so fun to watch; her passion and competitiveness is incredible. I have loved watching her leadership grow over the years and she is an amazing teammate."
