SAN DIEGO - San Diego swimming and diving will begin their 2020-2021 slate of events with a matchup against crosstown rival SDSU, traveling to the Aztec Aquaplex on Thursday, December 10 for a pentathlon. The meet will begin at 2:30 p.m.
The competition will feature five events and will be divided into two sections: a scoring portion and a non-scoring portion. It will begin with 100 free, fly, back, breast, and IM (scoring), followed by 50 free, fly, back, breast, 400 IM, and 500 free (non-scoring). The scored portion of the pentathlon will also include diving.Â
The Toreros will look to improve upon their last matchup against SDSU where they lost 153-128.Â
USD returns 24 letterwinners and will welcome 11 freshmen into the program this season. The team finished the pandemic-shortened 2019-2020 season on a high note, earning the WCC Cup before a strong performance at the MPSF Conference Championships.Â
Nearly all of the talent that proved key to that late-season surge remains on the roster, and six current Toreros recorded career-best times in February. Sophomore Callie Johnson and junior Hannah Hudson led the way this Spring, swimming season-best times in the 400-yard IM and the 100-yard backstroke, respectively.Â
Due to county and state protocols, fans will not be allowed inside the Aztec Aquaplex. Following the conclusion of Thursday's events, results will be available on GoAztecs.com.
