LAKE ELSINORE, Calif. - San Diego softball (2-4) dropped two close contests in day one of the Golden State Classic, falling to Portland State, 4-2, and Seton Hall, 6-5 on Friday.

Delaney Heller (2-3) earned both losses after earning the start in the circle against the Vikings and coming in in relief later in the afternoon.

GAME 1 - PORTLAND STATE
Senior
Madison Casiano went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI, but the Toreros still came up short on Friday, and fell to the Vikings (2-4) by a final of 4-2.

Sophomore
Kelli Kufta also provided a noteworthy effort as well, going 1-for-3 with an RBI.

Trailing by four, the Toreros connected to put runs on the board in the third inning. San Diego plated two runs off of Portland State pitching, as Casiano drilled a double to put one across.

The Toreros were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.

GAME 2 - SETON HALL
San Diego (2-4) brought a 5-3 lead into the seventh inning, but could not hold on and fell 6-5 to Seton Hall (3-2).

Sara Silveyra led the way offensively for the Toreros, going 1-for-3 in the ballgame with a home run, a walk and two RBIs. Junior
Halle Kyler compiled a standout effort as well, going 1-for-3 with two RBIs.
Hayley Hensley also helped out, going 2-for-3 for San Diego with a double.

The Toreros put runs on the scoreboard first, starting the scoring in the second inning. Hensley came across on a grounder from
Lauren Hendrickson to score the lone run of the inning for San Diego and get them on the board.

The Pirates failed to push any runs across before the Toreros' offense continued to execute. Silveyra smashed her first home run of the season, bringing the Toreros lead to 3-0.

Seton Hall fought back to even the ballgame at three before San Diego re-claimed a 5-3 advantage in the sixth inning. The Toreros notched two runs when a single from Kyler brought home Silveyra and Hensley.

The Pirates then answered back in the top of the seventh as Heller came in to try and close out the side, scoring three off a homerun with two outs in the inning. The Toreros were unable to get anymore across in the bottom of the seventh.

San Diego is back in action Saturday morning with matchups against Utah State and LIU to finish out the Golden State Classic.
