Toreros Drop Tough Matchup at No. 25 LBSU

San Diego was held to two hits in a 10-3 loss to the Dirtbags

LONG BEACH, Calif. – San Diego struggled on Tuesday night, falling to No. 25 Long Beach State by final score of 10-3 at Blair Field.

Freshman Jack Hyde (0-1) started and took the loss on the mound for San Diego (6-2), going 2.1 innings against LBSU (6-2). Brycen Mautz got the majority of the work out of the bullpen, throwing three innings and allowing three runs on five hits with two walks and four strikeouts.

Thomas Luevano led the way offensively for the Toreros, going 1-for-4 in the ballgame with a double, while Cody Jefferis registered the only other hit for USD.

After trailing 4-0, the Toreros first put runs on the board in the fourth inning.

USD scored two runs after Caleb Ricketts sent a line drive to center field that was mishandled by LBSU. The Toreros added one more in the inning on a sac-fly by Adam Lopez that scored Ricketts from third.

The Toreros were unable to get any closer, as Long Beach State added six runs to their tally on the way to a 10-3 final.

Next up for San Diego is a matchup on Thursday at 3 p.m. against international opponent Keio University in an exhibition game at Fowler Park.
