Toreros Come Up Short to North Dakota

Casiano and Silveyra shine in San Diego's 3-2 loss to North Dakota

SAN DIEGO -- Senior Madison Casiano and Sara Silveyra each collected three hits, but the Toreros (9-10) fell to North Dakota (6-12) 3-2 on Saturday night at home.

Senior Delaney Heller (5-8) got the ball to start for San Diego and took the loss. The right-hander went 4.1 innings, giving up two runs, both of them earned, on five hits, allowing no walks and striking out seven. Freshman Courtney Rose came in in relief and gave up one run in 2.2 innings of work.

Silveyra's three-hit day led the Toreros offensively. Casiano added two RBIs to her three-hit performance as well.

The Toreros got on the board immediately, starting their scoring in the first inning. Casiano executed for an RBI single to score Silveyra from third.

The Toreros lost the lead they built in the first, but got back on the board in the fifth trailing 2-1.  San Diego scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Casiano to tie it at two apiece.

North Dakota then scored one time over the remaining two innings to break the tie and grab the 3-2 win.

The Toreros are back in action on Sunday, when they will take on Mount St. Mary's before facing No. 1 UCLA. The Sunday action will be the final day of the San Diego Classic. First pitch is set for 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. (PT).
