SAN DIEGO - San Diego women's basketball returns to action on Tuesday, Jan. 26 inside Jenny Craig Pavilion as the Toreros play host to St. Mary's.

The contest marks the team's first since Jan. 4, after the program paused all team activities earlier in the month due to a positive COVID-19 test result.

LAST TIME OUT
• The Toreros rallied from a four-point deficit in the fourth quarter to defeat BYU at home, 58-56.

• Two players scored in double figures, led by redshirt senior Jordyn Edwards, who had 13 points, five assists and a career-high six steals. Erica Martinsen tacked on 12 points (4-for-5 from three) and two steals off the bench, and Kendall Bird added nine points.

• San Diego forced 26 BYU turnovers while committing just 15 themselves in Monday's game. The Toreros turned those takeaways into 25 points on the other end of the floor as Edwards' six steals led the way for San Diego.

• San Diego and BYU battled back-and-forth through the third, as the Toreros faced a four-point deficit to enter the fourth, 46-42.

• Martinsen led the charge as USD rallied in the game's final frame to outscore BYU 16-10. The Clarence, Ny. native came through from three, shooting a perfect 2-for-2 from beyond the arc in the period. A made free throw from Myah Pace with a minute to go and another with nine seconds on the clock from Edwards secured the 58-56 victory.

ALL-TIME SERIES AGAINST ST. MARY'S
• The Toreros will look to continue their winning ways against the Gaels as USD swept St. Mary's during the 2019-20 campaign.

• This marks the 64th matchup between San Diego and  St. Mary's with the Gaels holding advantage in the all-time series.

EDWARDS ON DEFENSE
• Edwards has been a force for San Diego both sides of the ball, but particularly on defense. The guard helps lead San Diego's full court press attack causing the Toreros to force 196 turnovers.

• Edwards leads the team in steals with 26 so far on the year and is tied with fellow senior Sydney Hunter in blocks (4).

• In the West Coast Conference, Edwards leads in total steals on the year and sits only behind Pacific's Valerie Higgins in steals per game. She's currently averaging 3.25 takeaways per game to rank 15th in NCAA
Division I.

THE ADDITION OF HORSTMEYER
• California native Kylie Horstmeyer has joined San Diego for the remainder of the 2020-21 campaign. As an early enrollee from San Diego's signing class, Horstmeyer is immediately eligible.

LOOKING AHEAD
• After pausing team activities earlier this month, San Diego will have a busy February with 12 West Coast Conference games scheduled.

• San Diego will face four three-game weeks with the longest road streak occuring from Feb. 8 through Feb. 15.

• The Toreros have also tacked on an additional home contest in the later half of the month, rounding out action inside the JCP against Pacific on Feb. 22.

STEAL CITY IN THE RANKINGS
• San Diego continues to be one of the top defenses in the country, ranking in the top 25 in three defensive categories.

• The Toreros currently rank in the top five in steals per game (fourth) and turnovers forced (fourth).

• San Diego is also ranked 11th in turnover margin.

THE HUNT FOR THE WCC CROWN
• The Toreros will look to continue their dominance in the West Coast Conference after finishing the 2019-20 regular season ranked second in the WCC. San Diego earned the triple-bye to the WCC Tournament Semi-finals for the first time in program history to knock off Pepperdine.

• San Diego then fell to Portland 64-63 in overtime in the WCC Championship and qualified for the 2020 WNIT prior to the season's cancellation in March. The postseason appearance would have marked the eighth under head coach Cindy Fisher's tenure at USD.

• The Toreros currently sit fourth in the WCC standings behind nationally-ranked Gonzaga, BYU and Portland.
