SAN DIEGO - San Diego women's basketball begins the second half of WCC play on the road at BYU on Saturday, Jan. 30 followed by a road trip to Portland on Monday, Feb. 1.

Saturday's contest is set for an 11 a.m. (PT) tip, while the contest against the Pilots is set for 2 p.m. (PT).

LAST TIME OUTÂ Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
• San Diego returned for its first contest since Jan. 4 after the program paused all team activities due to a positive COVID-19 test result within the program. The Toreros fell at home to St. Mary's, 56-63.

• Three players scored in double figures, led by redshirt senior
Jordyn Edwards, who had 12 points, four assists and three steals. Freshman
Laura Erikstrup proved to be key in rotation again for USD, adding 12 points off of the bench, while
Ayanna Khalfani chipped in as well with 10 points, nine rebounds and two steals.

• The defense came through in Tuesday's game as San Diego forced 23 Saint Mary's turnovers and collected 13 steals on the afternoon. The Toreros turned those takeaways into 15 points on the other end of the floor as Hunter's three steals led the charge.

• The Toreros went into halftime with a narrow two-point lead, and could not maintain the momentum as St. Mary's outscored USD in the third quarter to carry them to victory.

ALL-TIME SERIES AGAINST BYU
• This marks the second meeting of the 2020-21 campaign between the Cougars and the Toreros. San Diego came out on top inside the JCP in a thrilling 58-56 victory.

• BYU holds advantage in the all-time series, 15-8. The Toreros are currently on a two-game winning streak.

ALL-TIME SERIES AGAINST PORTLAND
• San Diego owns the all-time series records against the Pilots, 44-35. This is the inaugural matchup for the 2020-21 campaign and the first rematch of the 2020 WCC Championship game.

AMONG THE CONFERENCE'S BEST
• The Toreros have multiple players ranked among the best in the West Coast Conference.

• Offensively, Edwards and
Erica Martinsen rank among the conference's best as both are ranked seventh in free throw percentage and three-pointers respectively. Hunter and Erikstrup have been crucial off the glass, both ranked in the top 15 in the WCC for offensive boards.

• Four players are ranked in the top 15 in the WCC for steals, including Edwards (second), Martinsen (fourth), Hunter (11th) and Khalfani (14th).

EDWARDS IS ELITE
• Edwards performance has been nothing short of elite this season as she leads USD eight statistical categories.

• She currently leads San Diego in scoring, averaging 10.8 points per game, assists and free throws made. On the defensive side of the ball, Edwards has been unstoppable leading the team in steals with 29 on the year and blocks with four.

• Among NCAA Division I, Edwards currently ranks 11th overall in steals per game.

STEAL CITY IN THE RANKINGS
• San Diego has continued to climb the national rankings defensively as the Toreros are ranked in the top five in steals per game (third) and turnovers forced (fourth).

• The Toreros rose three spots this week and are now seeded as the ninth best team in the country in turnover margin.

LOOKING AHEAD
• San Diego faces a busy February, starting four consecutive three-game weeks with the game at Portland on Monday.

• The Toreros will face their longest road streak this week starting Feb. 8 with four consecutive road contests at LMU, St. Mary's, Pacific and Pepperdine.

THE HUNT FOR THE WCC CROWN
• The Toreros will look to continue their dominance in the West Coast Conference after finishing the 2019-20 regular season ranked second in the WCC. San Diego earned the triple-bye to the WCC Tournament Semi-finals for the first time in program history to knock off Pepperdine.

• San Diego then fell to Portland 64-63 in overtime in the WCC Championship and qualified for the 2020 WNIT prior to the season's cancellation in March. The postseason appearance would have marked the eighth under head coach
Cindy Fisher's tenure at USD.
