EWA BEACH, Hawaii — USD men's golf won its first tournament of the 2021-2022 season behind a dominant performance from redshirt junior
Charlie Reiter, taking first place out of 15 teams in the Hoakalei Country Club Invitational after the Palm Desert, California native finished first out of 79 golfers for his first college win.
Reiter put together rounds of 70, 69, and 69 strokes for a total of 208, finishing a tournament-best eight strokes under par for the win at the Hoakalei Country Club (Par 72, 7,413).
He was followed by fellow redshirt junior
Harrison Kingsley, who posted a three-under 213 with rounds of 72, 72, and 69 for a tied-for-sixth-place finish.
Sophomore
Andi Xu did his part with a two-under 214 with rounds of 70, 74, and 70 to finish tied for eight place, then freshman
Chris Wardrup notched a plus-three 210 (75, 71, 73) to grab a tie for the 16th-place spot (as an individual), redshirt junior
Evan Kawai finished tied for 49th (+10, 226, 75, 77, 74), and graduate student
Mason Glinski finished tied for 57th (+14, 230, 79, 73, 78).
As a team USD finished with a total of 857 strokes across all three rounds, besting second-place Loyola Marymount by two strokes for the win. In round one USD posted a 287, followed by a 288 in the tournament's middle round and a 282 to close things out in round three.
The win marks the Toreros' first team tournament win since they took home the trophy in the La Purisma College Invite in October of 2020. It's the first individual win for a Torero since Kingsley won the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational on September 30.
USD is back in action on Monday, November 8 when it concludes its fall schedule with play in the Saint Mary's Invitational in Pebble Beach, California at the Poppy Hills Golf Course (Par 71, 7,002).
