Toreros Replace Arizona in Texas Match Up on Hours Notice

San Diego fell to Texas 74-58 in Pac-12 Coast-to-Coast Tournament

LAS VEGASThe Toreros battled until the very end but came up short to Texas in a 74-58 loss at T-Mobile Arena on Sunday afternoon. San Diego replaced Arizona in the Pac-12 Coast-to-Coast Tournament match up after Arizona cancelled due to COVID protocols. Hours after their match up against Arizona State, San Diego rallied and traveled to Las Vegas to battle the #11 seed in the country. The Toreros played with heart, hustle, and determination on a big stage. 

San Diego (7-4, 0-0) held their own against Texas (8-1, 0-0) with 29 rebounds, 12 steals, and 14 assists. On offense, Kiera Oakry was the leading scorer followed by Laura Erikstrup. On defense, Sydney Hunter led the team in total steals followed by Ayanna Khalfani and Kasey Neubert.

WHAT HAPPENED
  • In the first quarter, San Diego forced six turnovers on Texas. 
  • In the second quarter, San Diego grabbed nine rebounds with Kasey Neubert leading the team with three. 
  • In the third quarter, the Toreros were aggressive at the rim with 12 points in the paint. 
  • In the third and fourth quarter, San Diego forced five turnovers off Texas. 
  • San Diego's gritty defense forced 19 total turnovers on Texas.

The Toreros will play at home against Texas State on Tuesday, December 21, 2021 at 2 PM. San Diego holds a 0-1 all time record against Texas State. Their only match up took place in 1994 and resulted in a 67-54 loss under head coach Kathy Marpe.
