SAN DIEGO - San Diego women's soccer (0-1) fell to Pepperdine (1-1) 4-1 on Friday afternoon at Torero Stadium its season opener.

San Diego managed just a single shot on goal in the match, as the Pepperdine defense held the Toreros in check. 

The lone bright spot for the Toreros was a penalty shot awarded in the 71st minute. Freshman Lexi Kaz stepped up to the spot and delivered low and hard, saving the Toreros from a shutout.

Sophomore goalkeeper Ellyn Casto recorded eight saves in the loss. 

The Toreros looked the most threatening with link up play on the left side in the second half. Jamie Goralski made multiple runs forward and fired one close shot. 

San Diego is back in action on Tuesday, as the Toreros will make a trip up to #3 UCLA for their second nonconference match of the season.
