LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Sophomore
Gianna Sbarbaro paced San Diego women's cross country to a fifth place finish at the WCC Championships on Wednesday morning. The Toreros were picked to finish eighth in the preseason coaches poll.

Sbarbaro ran number one for San Diego, finishing with a time of 20:43.8 and placing 10th overall. Her finish among the field qualified her for All-WCC first team honors. This marks the second consecutive WCC Championship where a runner from the women's side has earned conference nods.

"Today was a great race for the women," said head coach
Will Guarino. "So much went into getting ready for today and this team moved forward and focused on the vision of preparing for what could be. They knew they had something to prove."

"They ran to their potential in an elite conference that has and will have podium runners. I am excited and happy that the team rose to this level of running."

Senior
Hannah Rasmussen paced as the second runner for San Diego finishing 36th overall with a time of 22:33.8. Rasmussen helped push the Toreros' three runner in
Sera Parvin who finished with a time of 23:21.8.

Macey Holt,
Sydney Avery,
Emma Clark,
Mia Marsh and
Amanda Ghibaudo all worked together as a pack finishing the championship race in under 25:00.

Grace Beal rounded out San Diego's fifth place finish with a time of 25:01.0.

The WCC Championships marked the sole race of the spring campaign for San Diego cross country.
