Women's Team Finishes 2nd at Louisville XC Classic

Both squads show major improvement as women finish in 2nd and men jump 14 spots from last event

LOUISVILLE, KY. — The USD Women's and Men's Cross Country teams made a statement at the Louisville XC Classic, posting major improvements from their previous invitational. San Diego's women surged to 2nd place out of 24 teams, while the men claimed 11th out of 23 teams in the competitive field.

"Our mission was to grow as a team today and adapt to the different elements that are so different from racing in Southern California," head coach Will Guarino said afterwards. "We took a team of 7 men and 7 women to Kentucky to do just that.  The Men finished in 11th / 23rd while the Women's team finished in 2nd / 24 teams with a narrow finish.  I felt that we had a strong pack running presence for most of the race.  We now are focused on returning to Riverside, California in two weeks to continue the prelude to our WCC Championship.  I was happy how the women raced brave in the first half of the race as they were aggressive as a unit."

The San Diego women competed in the 6k race, as they improved massively from the last race, ending up in 2nd place with 64 points, and the men raced in the 8k, finishing in 11th place with 269 points.

Senior Rebecca Bronstein delivered the headline performance, capturing 3rd place overall with a 22:35.2 finish and leading the Toreros' charge. Sophomore Clare Boneau (23:02.1, 10th) and senior Camryn Kozak (23:03.5, 11th) stayed tight in the pack, establishing the racing that defined USD's second-place effort.
Freshmen Evelyn Cody (23:22.6, 19th) and Madison Li (23:29.2, 21st) continued the momentum, followed by senior Jillian Lange (23:40.6, 29th) and freshman Abigail Huth (23:43.3, 31st) as all seven scorers finished close to one another.
On the men's side,  Parker McAdam paced the Toreros with a 28th place finish in 25:59.8 leading San Diego.

Freshman Jack Loomis followed in 44th (26:20.6), while sophomore Max Gibbons and freshman Joseph Bronzini ran side-by-side in 60th and 61st with times of 26:34.8 and 26:37.2, respectively.

Freshman Troy Turner placed 81st (26:51.4), joined by freshman Robert Johnson (27:11.3, 100th) and freshman Samuel Keith (27:46.4, 133rd) as the Toreros demonstrated the pack running presence that came together on the Kentucky course.
