San Diego Drops Game Three in Extras

San Diego fell 7-3 in the series finale against UCSB

SAN DIEGO - The Toreros (3-6) fell 7-3 in an eight-inning matchup to the Gauchos Saturday afternoon. San Diego still clinched the series against UCSB (1-5) 2-1.

Sophomore Courtney Rose (0-2) came out of the bullpen for San Diego and took the loss.

Rion Simms led the way offensively for the Toreros, going 1-for-3 in the ballgame with a double. Lauren Hendrickson and Sofia Delgado also compiled noteworthy performances at the plate going 2-for-4 for San Diego.

The Gauchos tacked on runs early scoring two in the first and one in the second inning. The defense then kept UCSB off the board as USD entered the bottom of the seventh down by three.

The Toreros offense gained momentum off a high fly ball from AJ Kaiser, causing an error by the Gauchos' left fielder to bring two across. Halle Kyler came through with a suicide squeeze to score the tying run with only one out. San Diego couldn't push another across as the game went into extras.

UCSB took advantage of timely offense in the bottom of the eighth breaking the tie and tacking on four more. Rion Simms supplied a leadoff double in the bottom of the eighth but was stranded as the Toreros fell 7-3.

Next up for San Diego is a matchup on Sunday against No. 5 Washington as the Toreros and the Huskies will face off in double header action at 10 a.m. and noon (PT).
