Toreros Hang with Huskies

San Diego holds on with No. 5 Washington, falls in two games

SAN DIEGO - San Diego softball (3-8) battled against No. 5 Washington (13-2) on Sunday afternoon in double header action at the USD Softball Complex.
 
GAME 1 | No. 5 Washington 5, San Diego 0
The Toreros kept pace with the Huskies in game one, holding them scoreless through the third before Washington scored for the first time in the fourth.
 
Freshman Katlin Entrup (0-2) started and took the loss in the circle for San Diego. The right-hander went four innings, giving up one run on three hits, allowing two walks and striking out two.
 
Amanda Limon led the way offensively for the Toreros, going 1-for-2 in the ballgame with a walk.
 
San Diego managed zero chances with runners on third in the shutout, going a total of 0-for-4 with runners in scoring position. The Toreros last got a runner on third in the first, when Limon made it 60 feet away from scoring with one out.
 
Courtney Rose came into the circle in the sixth as Washington led by only three. The Huskies scored in the top of the sixth as the defense held them off the board in the seventh to make it 5-0 UW.
 
GAME 2 | No. 5 Washington 12, San Diego 0
In game two, Washington got going early scoring one run in the first, second and third innings. Junior Madison Earnshaw (1-4) got the ball to start for San Diego and took the loss.
 
Washington senior Gabbie Plain kept the Toreros off the base paths until the bottom of the fifth when Lauren Hendrickson singled up the middle as Washington led, 5-0. Hendrickson paced San Diego in the contest going 1-for-2 at the plate.
 
The Toreros went 0-for-2 with runners in scoring position, last placing a runner as far as second in the sixth, when senior Halle Kyler made it into scoring position with nobody out.
 
Washington took the lead for good in the top of the sixth, scoring seven runs off of Kyler who came into the circle in relief. The Toreros could not break up the margin in the bottom of the sixth as Kyler singled to lead it off for USD before three more batters were sat down in order.
 
The Toreros are back in action on Friday, March 5 when they'll take on Utah State for a double header inside the USD Softball Complex.
