The Toreros fell behind 6-2 to begin the contest. USD continued to trail the Lions before three-straight LMU errors pulled the Toreros even at 12-12. The teams traded points up to a 18-18 tie before a Frohling kill and an LMU hitting error finally gave USD the two-point advantage at 20-18. The Lions answered out of a timeout to tie the set again at 20-20 and reached set point first at 24-23. A kill and an ace from Wiblin gave USD the 25-24 set point and a block by Madill and Schraeder sealed the set-one victory, 26-24.

It was all USD to begin the second frame with the Toreros taking an early 5-1 lead. San Diego extended its advantage by as many as seven at 17-10 before LMU began a 7-3 run late. The Lions stayed within three but two kills by Wiblin sealed the second-set victory, 25-21.
