San Diego Falls to No. 14 LMU

The Toreros fall to a ranked opponent on Sunday

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - San Diego men's soccer (2-2-1, 2-1-1 WCC) fell to No. 14 Loyola Marymount (4-0-1, 3-0-1 WCC) 1-0 on Sunday afternoon in Los Angeles, Calif.

The first half was a back and forth affair with neither team able to get anything going early. The Lions then broke through in the 45th minute to take a one goal lead into the half.

The second half was much of the same, with neither team able to settle into a rhythm. 

Goalkeeper Marley Mascarenas showcased his ability by collecting nine saves, including one-on-one saves in the 57th and 70th minutes to keep the Toreros within one. 

It was a team effort in the 89th minute to keep the Lions off the board in the second.. Mascarenas made an initial deflection but the ball was headed into the net before junior Michael Barrow and senior Aaron Frey teamed up to knock the ball over the crossbar. 

The Toreros managed only four shots in the match. 

The Toreros return home next Sunday, March 28 to take on Portland. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. (PT).
