Toreros Bitten by Bulldogs

Another stellar performance from Casto in loss

SAN DIEGO - San Diego women's soccer (1-3, 1-1 WCC) fell to Gonzaga (4-1, 2-0 WCC) 3-0 in a West Coast Conference match on Saturday afternoon in Torero Stadium.

The first half was hard fought, with Gonzaga breaking through in the 41st minute. In the second half, the Bulldogs put two more on the scoreboard to mark the final score.

Sophomore Ellyn Casto continued to show exceptional ability with seven more saves in the match. Her season total now stands at 24.

Sophomore goalkeeper Sarah Young got her first action as a Torero coming on in relief of Casto in the 72nd minute.

Sophomore Eden Quiroz made a move to defense from midfield this week and it paid off with a couple of superb tackles. She also cleared a ball off of the goal line in the 60th minute to save a sure goal.

The Toreros managed 13 shots in the match including seven on target, including two headers from freshmen Leah Pirro and Aryssa Mahrt that forced diving saves from the Gonzaga goalkeepers.

San Diego will return to the pitch on Saturday, March 13 against St. Mary's in Moraga, Calif.
